| Power Grid Corporation Of India Ltd., the Central Transmission Utility (CTU) owns about 40,000 circuit kms. of transmission network across the country and is the largest transmission utility of the world. About 30% of total power is being transferred across the country over POWERGRID's transmission networks. It maintains its transmission system with an availability of over 98%, at par with international utilities. POWERGRID is committed towards development of National Grid and has already established its first phase with inter regional exchange capacity of 4350 MW which will be enhanced to 30,000 MW by the year 2012 in a phased manner. It has an ambitious plan to add around 70,000 circuit kms. of transmission lines by the year 2012. |
