Power Trading with Delhi.
07 November 2002

Delhi is now exporting power to other State - it may sound strange but it is true. However, the good news is that it is not adding to our power problems as the power is being sold during off peak hours. This has been made possible by Power Trading Corporation of India Limited (PTC) who have recently introduced the 'differential pricing' concept for round the clock and off-peak power. This has created a market for off-peak power, which was hitherto non-existent. Due to this, customers can sell and buy power in the same time frame i.e. one can buy power in peaking period when it is power deficit and can sell power during off-peak hours when it is surplus in power.

Delhi due to its load characteristics has surplus power during night hours. PTC signed an MOU with Delhi Transco Limited (DTL) on 28/10/2002 for purchase of 300 MW off peak power (7 hours a day from 22:30 hrs to 5:30 hrs) up to 31/03/2003. PTC in turn is selling this power to HVPNL. Power supply has commenced from 28/10/2002.

To meet its power requirements otherwise, DTL is purchasing 100 MW round the clock power from West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited (WBPDCL) and 150 MW from Uttaranchal Power Corporation Limited through PTC.
