MoU signed with M/s Jaypee Karcham Hydro Corporation Limited

Power Trading Corporation (PTC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with M/s Jaypee Karcham Hydro Corporation Limited (a subsidiary of M/s Jaiprakash Industries Ltd) on 18th June, 2003, to facilitate development of the 1000 MW (4 X 250 MW) Karcham Wangtoo Hydro Electric Project in the district of Kinnaur in Himachal Pradesh.
Karcham Wangtoo is the largest Hydro Electric Project being developed by an IPP at present and is expected to be commissioned in 2009-10. PTC has already taken up the task of locating offtakers of power from the project and expects the power to be sold to constituents of the Northern or Western region states. The project is located on the Satluj river and has a reservoir which endows it with a four hour peaking capability in the non monsoon months. The project has already received Techno Economic Clearance from the Central Electricity Authority. |
