In times of celebration
Bihu is the most important festival of Assam and is a time for families to come together and rejoice. However there were chances that the festivities would be marred by lack of electricity due to the state's inability to meet the heightened demand. PTC stepped in and agreed to supply power at a very short notice to meet the increased need of the state, thus ensuring that the brightness never dimmed.
In terms of trial
When Delhi-ites were able to derive warmth from their room heaters in the chilly winter of 2003, little did they know what effort went behind sourcing this Power. The unavailability of a direct transmission link between the Eastern and Northern region, necessitated that the power be wheeled across all regions of the country to Delhi. PTC's customer focus made this possible.
Farmer's delight
The farming community has long been affected by a dearth of reliable power supply. Farmers in the state of Punjab are however today ensured of a consistent supply of energy for irrigating their fields due to innovative planning by PTC. Neighbouring Delhi though facing shortage in day time becomes power surplus in the night. This surplus is put to efficient use by routing it to Punjab-and both neighbours reap a harvest of smiles.
Converting adversity into opportunity
In the monsoons of 2003, the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation's (NEEPCO) hydel projects were facing a situation of overflowing rivers while at the same time limited local demand did not warrant higher generation levels. The choices available were either to spill water or to utiltize the resource better by generating for other region's requirements. PTC enabled the transfer of NEEPCO's surplus power generation to utilities in the regions. While NEEPCO augmented its cash flows in the process, the country benefited from better utilization of water resources.
